Unless your parents left you a decent fortune or you possess extraordinary talent in competitive sports or popular music, you have probably been through a selection process at some point in your life and likely learned some lessons the hard way. These processes often take too long, provide insufficient feedback, and make us feel like just another number, with no one really caring about us until the moment we are selected. It’s only then that the logic of power is reversed, and we are finally seen as human beings.

We’ve all been through this, and it’s a sad reality. However, it would be even worse to replicate this same logic when we have the power to decide how things should be done. Here at Tarmac, we’ve strived to do things differently from day one, partly because of this ethical concern and partly because it simply makes practical sense.

This impacts not only HR processes: Tarmac actually believes in low bureaucracy in every aspect of the business. It increases efficiency, improves agility, enhances employee and customer satisfaction, saves costs, and fosters innovation. But mostly, we’ve learned that bureaucracy and Software Developers repel each other like objects with identical charges. Furthermore, we could even say that Devs and bureaucracy become more inestable near each other… The joke is nerdy and fun, c’mon you can laugh at it. I’m trying my best here…

When it comes to Staffing, having a simpler and faster process benefits both the company and the candidates. Speed is crucial to securing top talent before competitors do, while also making the recruitment process more appealing to candidates, potentially increasing the number of applicants and their commitment to it. It also shows respect for everybody’s time and effort, showcasing how they will be treated in the future once they are part of the company.

So, a simplified recruitment process not only saves time on both sides but also positively reflects on the company's efficiency and respect for both applicants' and interviewers' time. Streamlining the process can enhance the candidate experience, strengthen the employer brand, and improve the chances of attracting top-tier developers. Additionally, a faster process reduces the time-to-fill vacancies, ensuring that projects are staffed with qualified developers promptly. This efficiency leads to increased productivity and quicker project delivery.

In a nutshell: our recruitment process focuses on two key areas: Cultural fit and Technical fit. After these stages, we gather sufficient information to decide if the candidate is a good fit.

  • Cultural fit: HR ensures that candidates get and fully understand the information they need to feel secure and confident during the process. This stage also helps us understand if the candidate aligns with our cultures and values and if their personality may match the typical Tarmacian.

  • Technical fit: The candidate engages in a conversation with a set of our Tech Leads. During this discussion, we explore the candidate's experience, knowledge, and technical background and how they are used to solve problems. Even more, we explore what kind of problems they are used to dealing with and which paths they take to solve them.

The simplicity of our recruitment process often surprises our candidates, who may expect a more complex and drawn-out experience, as is typical in the IT industry with multiple steps like technical challenges, live coding, client interviews, and what not. Despite that, our retention and turnover numbers show that the process actually works and that you can be respectful of people’s time and deliver good results in Staffing, keeping also happy customers and stable teams for each of them.

Overall, we believe that prioritizing a more straightforward and faster recruitment process is essential to staying ahead in the fast-paced, talent-driven IT industry, while keeping it fun and simple for Recruiters and candidates.
